Rare English Flintlock Coach Fowler by GULLEY, LONDON, #3154 Firearms
A Rare Antique English Flintlock Coach Fowler made by; 'GULLEY', LONDON, circa. 1799-1804. 25", .72 cal. fading octagon-to-round steel barrel; patent breech w/engraving; single gold band and maker's Gold lined cartouche 'GULLEY', 'LONDON'; Platinum touch hole insert (original flint). The lock is of wonderful form at the very pinnacle of the flintlock evolution and this maker is a master of his craft clearly showing the excellence of his work; stepped lock plate tail w/indented boarder and maker engraved 'GULLEY'. Stock has a checkered wrist and a formed fore-end cap made of horn; (4) silver oval barrel wedge escutcheon plates; a small period wood replacement piece on the left side of the breech otherwise, solid with light scratches and dings from years of service. All steel furniture is engraved but washed out from exposure and over cleaning (which is expected from being out in the elements). In good working mechanical order. 40.5" overall.
Note; the low drop of the stock compared to other fowlers of the period.
