Antique Civil War Period Cavalry Sword by AMES, Dated 1864
Antique Civil War Period Model 1860 Cavalry Sword, dated 1864. 34.75" single-edge blade marked on the ricasso "U.S." over "C.E.W." over "1864" and on the other side "AMES SWORD WORKS, CHICOPEE, MASS". The brass guard is intact and has a dark yellow to olive color age patina with the pommel marked "C.E.W." and "J H". 75% of the twisted brass wire and leather covering the wood grip remains. The blade has areas of age patina. The metal scabbard is missing the throat piece and has a few dents. A good example with great markings.
