A Good English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss with Spring Bayonet by BARBAR, LONDON
A Good Antique Revolutionary War Period English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss by BARBAR, LONDON, circa. 1770's. 14.5" octagon-to-round-to-cannon muzzle brass barrel struck with (2) early TOWER PROOFS on the left flat of breech and engraved 'London' on the top (see photos); mounted with a spring bayonet on the underside of barrel. The stepped lock is engraved and maker signed 'BARBAR' with high quality roller frizzen spring. All brass furniture includes a trigger guard with a bayonet release lever through finial. Brass ram rod. The stock is solid with some filled areas around the barrel tang; scratches and dings from years of service. The blunderbuss is in it's original flintlock configuration and is in good mechanical working order. 30.5" overall length.
Note; These weapons were perfect for Coach defense and were the weapon of choice on the ships of the day because of their size (close quarter fighting) and being able to fire just about anything one could load it with !!! (Glass, rocks, nails and lead shot were the most effective).
