A Fantastic Antique Wrought Iron Treasure Chest/Casket ARMADA BOX/CHEST, circa. 16th-17th century. Beautiful original period decorative paint. Most likely made in Nuremberg, Germany.
Measures; 34" wide X 18.5" deep X 19.5" high.
Formed in a rectangular box, with carry handles attached to both sides. The lid is attached with (4) iron hinges and containing the complex lock mechanism, accessed with a single key, the hole is concealed beneath a movable cover. The interior lock mechanism throws (7) bolts at the turn of the key. The massive lock mechanism is covered by a steel escutcheon plate that is decoratively engraved and pierced. The interior "jewel box'' has the original key. Replacement two-hand top key. The steel has areas of de-lamination. The front of the box has (2) lock hasps and a false lock escutcheon. A great specimen in good working order.
