A Fabulous English Silver Mounted All steel 4 Barrel Tap-Action Box-Lock Flint Pistol by JOVER, LONDON
A Fabulous English Silver Mounted All steel 4 Barrel Tap-Action Box-Lock Flint Pistol by JOVER, LONDON, circa. 1780. 3", .376 caliber steel smooth-bore barrels each numbered 5-8. The steel box-lock frame has fine decorative engraving depicting a "panoply of arms" on both sides, maker signed "JOVER, LONDON", struck with oval "PROOF" and "VIEW" marks. There is a barrel pan cover slide on the right side as well as a barrel selector on the left. The top of the frame has a sliding safety. The flat sided wood grip stock has wonderful engraved leaves, flowers, grapes, vines and a vacant wrist escutcheon made of sterling silver of the highest quality exhibited on pistols of the Georgian period, (100% intact !). The pistol is in its original flintlock configuration with no replacement parts or restoration. The trigger guard is steel with decorative engraving. The stock is solid with the original varnish with very light scratches and dings from years of handling. 9.5" overall length. A real gem worthy of any museum collection...
NOTE: This is one of the best 18th century 4 barrel tap-action Georgian period pistols I have encountered and most certainly of the highest quality and craftsmanship. I have yet to see another with the extent of fine silver wire inlay.
