An Interesting Austrian Military Model 1849 Percussion Musket Imported for the American Civil War, dated "185#". This Civil War Era imported Austrian Military Model 1849 Percussion Musket has a 33.25", .74 caliber smooth-bore octagon to round steel barrel with remnants of the maker's name stamped into the top of the breech area "FRED. FRUWIRTH", rear sight and front sight is the bayonet lug. Lock has the remnants of the date "185#". Single steel barrel band at the muzzle. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, and side plate. The stock is solid exhibiting heavy use with minor loses on both the right and left upper edges of the fore-end, scratches and dings from service. The right side of the butt stock has added brass letters inlaid forming "U. S.". A nice looking survivor.
