A Scarce Antique U.S. Military Model 1870 Trapdoor SPRINGFIELD Rifle. Left over Civil War lock dated "1863", and marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the Federal Eagle. The breech-block marked "Model 1870", over the "Eagle Head" over "Crossed Arrows" over "U.S.". 32.5" .50 caliber rifled barrel. The stock is solid with a repair on the left side of the barrel tang, scratches and dings from years of service. All steel parts retain generous amounts (approx. 90%) original blue finish on barrel and (approx. 70% on the lock). In good mechanical working order.
