Possible Invasion of the Kansas Territory. 1856, Speech Pamphlet: “Kansas Contested Election” by Hon. John Hickman of PA, Published by The Republican Association of Washington, Very Fine.. Disbound, 9” x 5.75”, 8-page speech delivered in the House of Representatives by John Hickman on March 19, 1856. He states: “There are serious disorders there, even at this moment, and an increasing tendency to a state of actual war. The recent proclamation of the President of the United States warns us of the danger of a fresh invasion of the Territory.” Hickman won a national reputation as an untiring opponent of slave power. T he document is missing a very small piece of the upper right hand corner. Also a small circle of glue remnants affect the text in the first paragraph of the right hand column. An interesting speech over the admission of Kansas into the Union..
