$ 5,000.00

A Very Interesting Large American Revolutionary War Period English Flintlock Holster Pistol by JOVER, LONDON, circa. 1760 and Dated 1775 !  12", .72 cal. round steel multi-stage barrel marked with (2) oval Proofs of a small "Crown" over "GP" (Gun Makers Proof) and a small "Crown" over "V" (Viewed), "LONDON" and personally engraved "To Dick's Friend".  The convex lock has simple boarder line engraving and is maker signed "JOVER" and the pan has no bridle to the frizzen.  All steel furniture includes a wonderful side plate, trigger guard, long eared butt cap and a wrist escutcheon engraved "THOMs" / MANSTARD / 1775".  All steel parts have been cleaned in the past leaving remnants of light salt & pepper rust pitting.  Correct iron tipped wood ram rod (most likely a later replacement).  The stock has a 6.5" restored section of the fore-end.  The stock has fine high-relief decorative carving around the barrel tang terminating in a scallop shell design.  The overall stock is solid and may have been lightly sanded and varnished resulting in some of the edges to be rounded, with scratches and dings from years of service.  19.5" overall length.  The pistol is in it's original flintlock configuration.  A very nice large holster pistol that was definitely in service and in good mechanical working order.  This pistol may have seen service in the American Revolutionary War, 1776-1783 !
