A PAIR of Antique Silver and Iron Mounted Ottoman Empire / Turkish Flintlock Sash Pistols
#086
A Good Antique PAIR of Silver and Iron Mounted Ottoman Empire / Turkish Flintlock Sash Pistols, circa. 18th century. 13.5", .65 caliber smooth-bore iron barrels with decorative engraving. The convex round-faced banana shaped locks are unsigned with raised high-relief decorative engraving ensuite with the barrel and trigger guard. The pistols are in their original flintlock configuration. The trigger guard and lower ram rod pipe is made of iron and the balance of the furniture is silver including the barrel muzzle sheaths. The wood stocks have high-relief raised decorative carving overall and are solid with some minor loses around one of the pistol's butt caps, dings and scratches from years of service and handling. 20.75" overall length. An above average quality pair of pistols in good mechanical working order that were used but not abused.
Note: This form of flintlock pistol was prized by the Barbary Coast Pirates. This form of flintlock pistol was made without a ram rod. The ram rod was carried separately by a lanyard.
The raised engraved decoration on the top of the barrels, trigger guards, and locks are very similar in form and style to pistols produced in Greece and Albania.
