 A Exceptional American Revolutionary War Period Flintlock Officer's/Dueling Pistol by DURS EGG, LONDON, circa. 1775.  10", .64 caliber round iron smooth-bore, wedge-fastened, barrel engraved on the top flat "D. EGG LONDON".  The barrel proof marks are located on the bottom of the breech and is fitted with a gold touch hole insert.  The flat lock is signed by the maker "D Egg" with decorative engraving and a sliding safety.  The pistol is in its original flintlock configuration with no replacement parts or restoration.  All iron furniture includes an engraved trigger guard with acorn finial and butt-cap.  The stock has a horn fore-end cap, fine checkering around the grip (in typical Durs Egg fashion) and overall is solid with 90% original varnish with very light scratches and dings from years of handling.  Original horn tipped wood ram rod.  In good mechanical working order.  15.25" overall length.  A real untouched gem worthy of any museum collection...

About the Maker: 

Durs Egg (born 1748 and died in 1831).  He worked at many location listed in, Ref. GUNMAKERS OF LONDON 1350-1850, pg. 88.

He was a Swiss gun maker who emigrated to London in the very early 1770's and worked for John Twigg and shortly moved on to open his own business.  Durs Egg's work is some of the most desirable of all gun makers of the Georgian period.
