An Antique Victorian Period Miniature Suit of Armor made in the style of the 16th century, made circa. 19th - early 20th century.
An Antique Victorian Period Miniature Suit of Armor. 30” tall overall. A very good quality armor in the style of the late 16th century, made circa. 19th century-early 20th century. The suit stands on a rectangular wood plinth. The suit has a double morning star battle weapon (attached to the side of the suit with a piece of wire). The gauntlets are missing the fingers and thumbs. The Victorian period (1837-1901) had a huge Gothic revival for interior décor for the wealthy. Mansions and castles were decorated with all sorts of medieval weapons and suits of armor of all sizes. Original antique arms & armor were in short supply resulting in a few companies producing very high-quality copies to fill the demand which are now very collectible antiques. The metal has a dark brown rust age patina. A great little suit of armor ready for display.
NOTE: It is my opinion that the double morning star battle weapon is a later addition. The gauntlets are missing the fingers and thumbs. The tassets are secured to the breastplate by wire. Originally the tassets were attached to the breastplate by leather straps with buckles (now missing). Unfortunately, the leather rots and becomes brittle over time.
