Famous Americans Portraits Including Meriwether Lewis. c. 1800-1904, Lot of 5 Portrait Prints of American Explorers and other Notables, Including Meriwether Lewis, Zebulon Pike, Timothy Pickering, Daniel Tompkins and Freeborn Garrettson, Mostly Extremely Fine.. With the exception of the Garrettson portrait, these prints are all printed on heavy paper with blank backs, mostly measuring 5.5” x 4” or 8” x 6,” the 3 smaller prints protected by a sheet of tissue. 1. MERIWETHER LEWIS, brown mezzotint print produced in 1904, choice condition. 2. ZEBULON PIKE, photogravure from the Peale painting, trimmed to oval shape, choice condition. 3. TIMOTHY PICKERING, black mezzotint produced in 1904, choice condition. 4. DANIEL D. TOMPKINS, steel engraving in excellent condition. 5. REVEREND FREEBORN GARRETTSON, at age 73, on a page from a book or magazine, probably printed in or shortly after 1825, when Garrettson turned 73. This print is in nice condition, though heavily age toned. An unusual group of portraits. (5 prints)..
