A Rare and Fantastic Large American WAR OF 1812 Cannon Priming Powder Horn, dated '1813'. Owner's name hand engraved/scrimshawed on the lower section by the decorated wood plug; 'Sm. Wm. BROWN, HIS HORN, SACKETTS HARBOUR At Ye LAKE, Year 1813'., Wonderful engraved/scrimshawed 'spread Eagle standing on a Cannon'. In wonderful original condition with nice glossy surfaces.
Comes with an original letter To: Mr. L. F. Blake dated, 1982 from well known Antique Dealer; Edward L. Kreinheder, 197 Main Street Warrensburg, N.Y. 12885 attesting to the horns authenticity and explaining the rarity and historical significance of the horn.
Sacketts Harbor was/is the American stronghold on Lake Ontario, New York at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River and played an extremely important role in the War of 1812 against the British Forces trying to recapture the relatively new United States of America. Important Naval and Military actions took place at Sacketts Harbour and throughout the St. Lawrence River region.
