Encased Postage Stamps, John Claflin, Land Deed
John Claflin of Hopkinton Massachusetts 1798 Land Transfer Deed - Encased Postage Rarity Heritage . April 19, 1798, Autograph Document Signed, “John Claflin,” Selling Land in Hopkinton Mass., Choice Very Fine.. This is an original 8” x 14” document dated 1798, where John Claflin of Holliston (MA) has sold to Samuel Goddard (a saddle maker from Franklin, MA), a piece of land in Hopkinton. That land borders the road from the Meeting House in Hopkinton to the Meeting House in Westborough. There is also some mention of land transferred from the Harvard College Trustees. It is Signed by Jeremy Stimson, Benjamin Pond, John Claflin and John Stone, as Registrar. There are some folds, minor paper faults, otherwise this document is well written in dark ink, being easily readable and in very good shape. Here, “John Claflin” is very likely the father of the Advertising Merchant on the exceedingly rare Civil War Era, 1862 Encased Postage Stamp encasement made for Claflin & Company of Hopkinton, Massachusetts..
