A Wonderful Revolutionary War Period British/American Flintlock Pistol by KETLAND & Co.
A Wonderful High Quality Revolutionary War Period Antique British/American Flintlock Pistol by KETLAND & Co., circa. 1770's-1780. 9", .62 caliber round steel barrel with remnants of "LONDON" engraved on the top flat; (2) early oval proofs and the barrel makers mark "TK" (Thomas Ketland worked 1766-1787). The lock plate has simple boarder line engraving and is maker signed "KETLAND & Co.". Brass furniture includes an open work side plate, and a trigger guard with a convex acorn finial. Wood ramrod with horn tip. Stock has an old break that has been mended just forward of the lock; a carved raised apron around the steel barrel tang; otherwise, solid with scratches and dings from years of handling. The pistol is in it's original flintlock configuration and is in good mechanical working order. A beautiful pistol of classic form.
Note: The frizzen spring has been replaced with one from a British military Light Dragoon or Sea Service pistol.
