A Rare 16th Century Breastplate, most likely Italian or German
A Rare Antique 16th century Breastplate (most likely Italian or German), circa. 1550-1590. Breastplate formed of a heavy main plate with a medial-ridge (rib) projecting forward over the lower belly, and fitted with movable gussets at the arm openings and a fauld at the lower waist forming a single lame. Possessing a broad moderately shallow neck-opening boldly roped. Decorative incised lines. Steel surfaces have age rust pitting with some losses in the center of the fauld lame. In good condition for the age and of wonderful form.
