1857 Speech on Constitution of Kansas
“The Constitution of Kansas” by Missouri Senator J.S. Green. December 16, 1857, Speech by Hon. J.S. Green, of Missouri.: “THE CONSTITUTION OF KANSAS,” Printed at the Congressional Globe Office, Washington, D.C., Very Fine.. Disbound, 9” x 5.75”, 14 pages. Senator Green of Missouri complains that the debate on the on admission of Kansas into the Union was begun without any “executive recommendation” by the President, and that Senator Douglas’s speech the preceding week was designed to “prejudice” the attitudes of the Kansas voters who were to vote in the coming week. The pamphlet includes a brief, pointed exchange between Sens. Douglas and Green. Fascinating content! Red, oval stamp of the Newark Library Association in upper left-hand corner. Partially separated cover page but the overall condition is still very nice..
