1828 Manuscript NY Militia Officer “Elections” Report. August 13, 1828-Dated, Manuscript Military Document, Being a Report of the Election of Officers for the 8th Regiment of the New York Militia, With Postal Markings on the Integral Address Page, Very Fine.. This is an original, early 1800’s, Handwritten, 8” x 12.5” Manuscript Military Document, Signed by Brigadier General Thomas B. Gillespie. It is headed, “Return of Officers elected to fill vacancies in the Fifth Brigade of Artillery of the Militia of the State of New York...” Seven names of newly elected officers are listed, along with the names of those whom they replaced, including a Lieutenant Colonel, a Major, a Captain, and 4 Lieutenants. The integral address area on the back of this document has a Free Franking signature, “Thos. B. Gillespie - Brig. Genl.” and also red postal stampings, including a circular Utica, NY postmark. This military document is in nice condition, with light soiling and age toning, and some old, archival repairs in the center area, otherwise strongly written and clearly readable.
