A Rare Early Antique English Brass Barrel and Lock Flintlock Holster Pistol by, JAMES FREEMAN, LONDINI (LONDON), circa. 1725-1740.  10" 3-stage round brass barrel stamped on the right side of breech with (2) oval proofs, 'CROWN' over 'J F' barrel maker mark of James Freeman, 'JAMES FREEMAN', 'LONDINI' engraved on the top of barrel; with decorative engraved barrel tang.  Brass lock plate with simple decorative engraving and 'FREEMAN'.  The pistol is in it's original flintlock configuration.  Brass furniture includes a long-eared butt cap with grotesque face mask (worn), beautiful open worked side plate, stylized wrist escutcheon, and turned ram rod pipes.  Original wood ram rod with worm.  The stock is solid with relief carving; minor age stress cracks, scratches, small edge chips, and dings from years of handling.  16.5" overall length.  A wonderful classic early Georgian English pistol worthy of any Museum.

Note; the brass lock and barrel was preferred by Naval Officer's because the brass did not rust.  Remnants of pistols like this example have been recovered from archaeological sites from the French and Indian War - the American Revolutionary War.
