A Good Antique British Military Basket Hilt Grenadier's Broadsword made for the horseman, circa. 1730-1740. Straight 30" blade w/23" single fuller exhibits areas of age pitting. Steel hilt of basket form constructed of flat bars with rounded edges. Cast brass grip in the form of twisted wire wrapping. Domed pommel. 36" overall. This type of sword was used in the Colonies and most certainly used in the French and Indian War and American Revolution.
