An Antique Revolutionary War Period English Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol by, J. PROBIN, circa. 1770-1780. 10" .60 caliber side-by-side smooth-bore steel barrels engraved "J. PROBIN" on the center rib with engraved patent breech.  The pistol is in its original flintlock configuration.  Engraved brass furniture includes a long-eared butt cap, end cap, trigger guard with Pineapple finial, and vacant oval wrist escutcheon.  Both round faced banana locks are signed "J. Probin" with simple line boarder engraving.  The stock has a repair just above the rear of the right hand lock mortise, a stress crack on the right side above the barrel wedge otherwise, solid with normal scratches and dings from years of handling.  Wood ram rod with horn tip.  In good mechanical working order.  16.25" overall length.  A big high quality double barrel flintlock pistol seldom encountered...

NOTE: All steel surfaces exhibit salt & pepper rust pitting.  The tip of the brass trigger guard finial is broken off and missing.

RESTORATION NOTES:  The stock has a repair just above the rear of the right hand lock mortise (see photos).
