A Very Interesting and Scarce Antique U.S. Military Civil War Model 1863 (Type 1) SPRINGFIELD Rifle Converted to Trapdoor, converted circa. 1865.  Civil War model 1863 (Type 1) rifle lock dated "1863", and marked "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the Federal Eagle.  40" .58 caliber rifled barrel with remnants of the date "1864".  The stock is solid with scratches and dings from years of service.  All steel parts have salt and pepper pitting with dark age patina.  Missing the ram rod.  The lock is in good mechanical working order.

NOTE; The Allin style trapdoor conversion mechanism is a bit sloppy and could use some work.  This appears to be a transition between the Allin conversion of 1865 and the Allin conversion of 1866.
