A RARE British Royal Navy Ships Flintlock Swivel Gun

$ 0.00

A RARE Antique British Royal Navy Flintlock Ships Swivel Gun, circa. 1813.  24.25” steel barrel with a 1” bore.  Birmingham proof marks.  Lock engraved “HMS AMAZON, 36” made by “BLAKE”.  The lock is in good mechanical working order.  Beautiful stock with original iron swivel post & yoke.  The gun is in its original flintlock configuration.  The stock is solid with light scratches and dings from years of handling.  A wonderful item to display !!!

There were (2), maybe (3) HMS AMAZON War ships that this example may have been assigned to.  Additional research would only benefit the provenance.

It is my opinion that this gun was made by Blake utilizing some older parts.  I believe the lock, and trigger guard are from a mid 18th century gun (of the same pattern wall gun).  Many of these wall guns were intentionally reduced in length for ship use.
The proof marks and the presences of a center screw in the side plate indicates the last assemblage of all the parts was around 1813-1815.
